Frequently asked questions

Getting Started & The Match

Will an online session be different from a face to face sessions?

If you are used to seeing your psychologist face to face in the clinic, then online therapy sessions will feel a little different in the beginning. But do not worry, you will soon adapt to the new format. Some clients now report preferring online therapy sessions over face to face sessions.

Is online therapy effective?

Research has consistently found that online therapy can be equally as effective as face to face counselling, particularly when focusing on short-term goals and reducing symptom severity. In fact, some studies have shown that online therapy can be more effective than face to face therapy, especially when it involves the use of cognitive-behavioural strategies in certain circumstances.

How does the matching process work?

We do not believe in random assignments. Our algorithm uses your assessment data - including your goals, age, gender preference, and language - to match you with a specialist who truly understands your context.

What happens during the free 15-minute intro session?

This is a vibe check. It is a no-pressure video call to meet your therapist, ask questions, and see if you feel comfortable. If it is a match, you can discuss a plan. If not, we will help you find a different match - no questions asked.

How long are sessions?

Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes. Your therapist may recommend a different session duration depending on your needs and convenience.

Do I have to commit to a long-term package immediately?

Not at all. While your therapist may recommend a package (like 4 or 8 sessions) based on your needs, you always have the option to book a single session whenever you like.

Privacy & Safety

Is my data and session content confidential?

Absolutely. We adhere to the highest standards of clinical confidentiality. Our video platform is end-to-end encrypted, and your personal data is stored on secure, protected servers. What you say in the room stays in the room.

Can my employer or family find out I'm using TherapyHelps.in?

No. We do not share your information with any third parties, employers, or family members unless you explicitly ask us to do so in writing, or in cases of immediate physical safety risks.

Is this a crisis intervention service?

No. TherapyHelps.in is for scheduled counseling and wellness. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency or thoughts of self-harm, please contact national helplines like Vandrevala Foundation or iCall immediately.

Logistics & Payments

What are your session rates?

Our rates are transparent and vary depending on the therapist's experience level. Booking a package (4+ sessions) offers a significant discount compared to single sessions.

How do I pay?

Payment on the website can be made using major credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, RuPay), digital wallets (GPay, PhonePe, BHIM and more), UPI QR Code, or netbanking. Payments for offline sessions can be made in cash or through UPI.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Life happens. You can cancel or reschedule for free up to 24 hours before your session. Late cancellations or no-shows may incur a fee to respect the therapist's time.

Which languages are supported?

We take pride in our local context approach. Our therapists offer sessions in English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, and several other regional languages. You can select your preference during the assessment.

Technical Questions

What do I need for an online session?

Just a stable internet connection, a private space where you will not be overheard, and a smartphone or laptop.

What if I have a technical glitch during a session?

Do not worry. If a call drops due to our platform, we will either extend the session or reschedule it at no extra cost to you.

What should I wear? Can I wear my pyjamas?

We recommend you wear something comfortable, but please wear something appropriate for an online therapy session. This may be your pyjamas or even your favourite onesie. We will be in the clinic or a home based workspace, so it will be normal work attire for us.
